Fashion pundit and culture maven Lucinda McRuvy spends so much time jet-setting, her perfect Toronto day doesn’t even start in her own home.
When in Toronto, I spend most of my time covering events and meeting people, looking for the next hot thing. Someone always places a bottomless champagne flute in my hand, so I never know where I’ll spend the night after a champagne adventure.
I love it when impromptu parties break out in suites at my favourite hotel, the SoHo Metropolitan (318 Wellington Street West, 416-599-8800, from $200), so my perfect Toronto day would start there. Naturally, I would wake up with last night’s hot gentleman host sharing my Italian Frette linens and find that he arranged a couples in-room massage with Bruno and Sergei, the boys with the best hands in the city. Refreshed and ready to face the world, we would brunch downstairs at the Senses Bakery (416-935-0400, $19.95).
While enjoying the superb smoked salmon eggs benedict and sharing The Globe and Mail, my gentleman would point out my latest column. Before he could say too much, an editor would call my iPhone (Apple Store, Eaton Centre, 647-258-0801, $499) with an assignment: cover the opening night gala for a Todd Lambeth exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario (317 Dundas Street West).
I’d hop on my gunmetal grey Vespa GTV (Motoretta, 554 College Street, 416-925-1818, $8,999) and head to Farley Chatto’s studio (By appointment only: 525 Adelaide Street West, Suite 402, 416-703-6503) to borrow one of his amazing dresses for the evening. Next, I’ll run into Holt Renfrew (50 Bloor Street West, 416-922-2333) to pick up Louboutin shoes to match Farley’s gown and stop at the salon to have my hair set. I love them there; they’re used to my last-minute requests and always fit me in!
After that, I’ll have to stop at my Minto Yorkville condo (61 Yorkville Avenue, 1-800-667-8483) to visit my little bunny rabbit, Lady Miss Angora. Dogs are so passé. She eats the best organic food in town, which is delivered right to my door from Pusateri (57 Yorkville Avenue, 416-785-9100). As soon as I walk in the door, my Bang & Olufsen BeoSound wall stereo (110 Bloor Street West, 416-935-1919) will start playing Madame Butterfly and Lady Miss Angora will jump around in her cage until I pick her up for a pre-party cuddle. I’ll pet her for a bit, then slip into my party/work outfit and zip my Vespa past the Royal Ontario Museum (100 Queen’s Park, 416-586-8000) since I love the new crystal addition and want to see it as often as possible.
The AGO gala will be full of Toronto’s cultural elite, so I will discuss the artist’s work with Atom Egoyan and Margaret Atwood and someone will pop a glass in my hand. Another Toronto champagne adventure would begin and I’d smile at the prospect of waking up for another perfect Toronto day.

Kinda crass really, + not really that cool. Any old lush can borrow clothes to hide behind and try and pretend they fit in with some vague ‘elite’. Try find a real meaning!
