L’Oréal Fashion Week Day Three

Woke up this morning with sore feet and pounding head. Why did I drink so much Smirnoff and Tanqueray at the Philip Sparks Drake Hotel after party last night? Oh yes…the bartender was so cute, I had to keep returning to keep him working.

I should have known better; he kept me up so late that I didn’t have time to go home and change before my morning interview. Why did I schedule a morning interview? The designer totally noticed that I was still wearing my hot Joeffer dress and yesterday’s makeup. Not fashionable. Will he tell anyone? I broke Fashion Rule Number One: Never repeat a Fashion Week outfit. I should be fired.

After the interview, I returned home to change and freshen up, which took all afternoon since I had so many outfits to choose from. It was David Dixon’s show day, so I decided on a safari skirt and blouse shown in his Spring/Summer 08 collection. I also added John Fluevog Body Parts Pumps with the most amazing gold heel. To top it off, I put on some bangles I bought from the talented Susie Love. How did I not know about her before yesterday’s shows?

I tried to return to the tent for Jeanne’s presentation of her fashion journalista BRATZ doll, Passion for Fashion launch, and Diesel Kids show, but I just couldn’t. I will be fired.

Luckily, my brilliant - but sometimes snarky - friend Bernie Debt recapped what I missed:

“The Fashion Environment has turned into a nursery school. Aren’t you supposed to keep children in those…what do you call them? Prisons? Playpens? I’m all for child labour, but couldn’t someone have taught those kids to walk in a straight line?”

Ooooh….the kids didn’t walk in straight lines? I’m glad I missed it. I hate it when models make mistakes.

Comrags never disappoints. I loved the slightly tipped hemline on some of the skirts and their long, long sleeves and cuffs were definitely me. Everyone else liked it too. David Livingstone said, “I enjoyed it very much” and Nathalie Atkinson proclaimed, “I’m Comrags always!”

Is it so bad to be blown away by the accessories shown with Andy Thé-Anh? Sure, he has sumptuous clothes, but mile-long gloves paired with short sleeves stole my breath. And those cowl-neck wraps! I simply must get some for next season. After the show, I ran into Leesa Butler, the always-gorgeous f-list editor, who was wearing a fits-like-a-glove Andy dress paired with Pink Tartan silver shirt. She loved Andy’s new collection:

“I think it’s fitting that he had Tina Turner for the music. Andy Thé-Anh knows how to make a lady feel like a rock star. And Tina Turner is a lady if there ever was one.”

This week, Leesa has been updating the inboxes of L’Oréal Fashion Week followers with daily doses of The Glossy - recapping events, spotting trends, quoting precious observations, previewing collections, and highlighting the best Canadian designers.

David Dixon will see more of my paycheque next season because I loved his tree silhouette prints. Prints haven’t figured prominently in the Fall/Winter 08 collections, so this was a pleasant surprise. I saw both Hepburns in this collection: Audrey could have worn his dresses and Katherine would have been exquisite in his suits. Both would have looked beautiful in the burgundy lipstick, my favourite lip colour of the week.

Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong from Greta Constantine brought nature into CiRCA with naturally draping fabrics, knotted deity dresses, and Dandi Maestre organic accessories. Okay, the neoprene coats weren’t all that natural, but the entire collection made me think of a 70’s Bond Girl lounging at a ski lodge. The boys should have added a bearskin rug to the set.

Sadly, Fiona had to ruin my night. Two seats away from me, she blabbed to everyone how New York Producer asked for a TV show proposal. After our Susur dinner, he didn’t follow up with me, and I’m the one with more television experience. Oh, that Fiona makes me mad. What am I going to do with her? I pondered solutions to the Fiona Problem between sips of complimentary Campari.
