Fashion rule Number Two: Always wear what designer is showing that day.
Today it’s Paul Hardy - I chose a peach ruffled dress, accessorized with my Fluevog Ivannas, and opera gloves. Gloves are all over the runway, so I’ve got to flaunt the fashion before the rest.
I started the day with the Zoran Dobric collection and chatted Marlene Schiff after the show. She carries Zoran in Boutique le Trou, my favourite Toronto store, so I got her review:
“He’s made the leap into mainstream in terms of marketability. He did the trend of digitized prints better than anyone else this season.”
The Gsus show: pure entertainment. They captivated the crowd by placing a dancer down the runway alongside Much Music’s cutest VJ. The target market (those young, trendy girls) swooned at the models and I scoffed at the clothes. They took me back to 1984; a place I didn’t want to revisit. That was when I wore neon tights and cardigan sweatshirts. Acid washed jeans are back - Gsus should die for this sin.
At dinner in the media lounge, the bloggers
complained about the lack of chairs. I wanted to tell them they were the ones taking up the room. Bloggers!
Sartorial scrutinizers couldn’t decide if they liked Paul Hardy’s Edith Piaf boudoir collection. I was split too. Loved the champagne colours. Loathed the presentation. He may have wanted us to concentrate on tops and bottoms separately, but I ended up wondering where the other half of the collection was.
FDCC President Robin Kay nearly broke a stiletto heel tripping over her speech prior to the Rudsak show. Rolyn Chambers, Fab magazine scene reporter, CiRCA fixture, and very stylish Torontonian had this to say about Robin’s speech:
“Robin Kay is like the hilarious aunt who at times might have too much to drink. You don’t know what she’s going to say. She’s seen everything and done everything, so who cares if she falls off her chair every so often?”
Of course I won’t mention it in my column.
Could there be a better place than the Spoke Club to celebrate Good Thursday Night? It has to be one of my favourite places, even when the hoi polloi hobnobs with hotties like Jeremy Laing and Lucian Matis. Zink magazine “blamed Canada” of greatness by launching a Great White North edition and celebrating with a friendly and fabulous fashion flock.

Lucinda, I thought you said you were going to ditch your Spoke membership like the rest of us?!?! Get off that ship before it sinks you into a watery grave of banker bores in off-the-rack Hugo Boss (otherwise known as the upper middle class man’s Moore’s).
