Last night’s [FAT] theme was Urban Experiment, so I was inspired to create a wardrobe experiment. I found a cool set of curtains at Value Village and thought it would make a nifty kimono.
My recycled duds matched the message given by fashion-girl-bike-gang, The Deadly Nightshades, who produced a movie about recycling, re-using, reducing, and partying. What a fierce group of fashion students!
I also got excited about the social conscious message promoted by The Rage, a kickass Kensington store that sent kickassier models down the runway with protest signs proclaiming, “Style Revolution”, “Quality Not Quantity”, “Anti-Fashion”, and “Buy Local”. Yes to all those messages! I hope people will listen.
Oh, and NOW Magazine had its own cool show that highlighted total downtown Toronto style. The models totally rocked. I loved that [FAT] used untraditional models of all shapes, sizes, and colours.
The night was fantastic! I really felt part of a true Toronto fashion scene and got to meet all sorts of other artists.
