Go! Doors Open Toronto

I had such a great day! I took time off from making armbands because they’re kind of driving me batty. And because today was Doors Open Toronto. It’s such a cool way to see the city because it’s an entire weekend where some of Toronto’s coolest buildings are open to the public.

I started at the CBC building, which always makes me feel patriotic whenever I walk by. I was there to catch a live taping of one of my fave CBC radio shows, GO! I’ve never been in the Glenn Gould studio, but I always hear about it when I’m alone in my windowless studio listening to CBC. GO! Always makes me laugh and I’m always talking about the CBC, so a friend got us free tickets. I’ve never seen a live radio show before and it was so fun. I loved the musical guests, Justin Rutledge and the Bicycles. Everything about the show was cute, adorable, and funny.

After giggling out of the CBC building and into Fresh for an amazing vegetarian brunch (I’ve never had tempeh as good as their coconut tempeh treat!), I left my friend to visit my equivalent of a church: Malabar’s costume warehouse.

It was a dream: an entire warehouse filled with opera and theatre costumes. I heard it was haunted, so when I walked past a row of costumes from The Mikado, a cold breeze brought the costumes to my attention and sent a cold chill down my spine? Was it a sign? Should I use this opera as my next collection inspiration?

Or maybe L’Orfeo. Those costumes were supercool. Perhaps I should check out La Traviata too. I heard it was the basis for Moulin Rouge, which I love.

I think I’m going to become an opera nut!
