I heard that Montreal-based Renata Morales worked on the costumes for Next Floor, a film that recently won the Cannes Film Festival short film grand prize. To celebrate, I donned my latest Renata frock, accessorized with Stewart Weitzman shoes and a Karen Wilson purse (specially designed in collaboration with Fashion Crimes), and Vespa’d over to Marben Restaurant.
Gritty Queen Street artists took over the swanky Wellington eatery the launch of (dot) art, which is a restaurant-based exhibit where one featured gallery shows and sells art to the public. This time, it was Omy Gallery and their squad of street artists.
Shoes got the inner-city artist treatment and I fell in love with Ndeur’s painted heels. I must take a trip to The Rage in Kensington to purchase a pair; they’re so original and adorable.
After admiring the shoe display, I spied a shadowy hooded figure painting an intriguing work in the corner. Swallowing some prosecco, I approached and met Stu Playdead, who is one half of the duo behind lifestyle brand Playdead Cult. For a guy who kind of looks scary and makes clothes with skulls and monsters, Stu was every bit the gentleman.
Stu introduced me to Bowman, an artist who is truly inspired by pop culture icons. I was drawn to his Bill Murray work.
Lee from Omy steered me through the exhibit and I fell in love with some of these edgy artworks. Next time I’m on Queen Street, I’ll definitely stop in the gallery to see what’s coming up next.
