I don’t know if I’m too fond of many nominees, but I LOVE Fritz Helder and the Phantoms! The Much Music blog posted their “Making a Scene” video for something dumb like, “Best unexplained celebrity cameo”, but it is easily explained: Helder and some Phantoms were once Nelly Furtado’s backup dancers. The Much Music people aren’t very with-it. Not only that, but this should be nominated for Best Video! It’s a take-off on CK One and it’s totally cool.

Skye Sweetnam is nominated for something? Her video, “Human”, is nominated for Best Cinematography. What is Cinematography, anyway? She looks kind of cool in a Mad Max/Tank Girl kind of way, but she seems kind of over-styled, like her clothes weren’t her own choice. But I like that style anyway. The music? Not so much.

Then again, she was on Tim Armstrong’s last single, “Into Action”, which was kind of the best song ever, so maybe Skye is sort of cool. If she’s at the MMVA’s, maybe I should give her some armbands…
