You wanted the best; you got the best.

You can’t possibly want the worst, but they must be exposed in order to improve the Canadian style landscape. They are the musicians, artists, and cultural figures who do the most damage to our fashionable reputation.

What was my criteria, you ask? My least stylish Canadians are those in the public eye who court ridicule from an international audience. He or she must have a strong, recognizable lack of style.

As with my Best Dressed list, I wanted to include a cross-section of Canadians from coast to coast, but this time I encountered a new dilemma. The worst perpetrators of fashion crimes tended to be those who relocated to the United States.

What can we conclude from this exercise? Canadians are really a stylish bunch. Americans are the ones who are the Worst Dressed. But since I promised you a list of Worst Dressed Canadians, I must honour that promise.

Dear Readers, I now present to you the worst of the Worst Dressed Canadians.

Lucinda’s List: Top Ten Canadians without Sophisticated Style

  1. Chad Kroeger - This musician should ask for all his nickels back from any hair or wardrobe stylist he ever consulted.
  2. Nelly Furtado – She tried out a sexy new look and she’s a promiscuous girl with Canadian designers, but she tries too hard to look hip.
  3. Shania Twain – I would never approve of a leopard skin cape or a woman hiding behind a hockey jersey.
  4. Bonhomme – Yes, I do realize he is a cultural icon, but the Quebec Carnival mascot does not wear pants and he has been wearing the same toque and sash for years. It is time for a makeover, Mr. Homme.
  5. Jim Carrey – The most recent paparazzi photographs show him sporting his girlfriend’s bathing suit and it was not funny.
  6. Pamela Anderson – In this Playmate’s case, less is less and more is too much. She needs to find some balance.
  7. Rick Campanelli – He won the MuchMusic Temp contest and audiences adored his aw-shucks style, but the little boy is growing up. So should his style.
  8. Terri Clark – She’s a pretty girl, but she should lose that hat.
  9. Keifer Sutherland – He looks good on 24, but he always wears the same outfit. Can the wardrobe department not think of a way to show off Mr. Sutherland’s style?
  10. Sarah Polley – We adore Miss Polley’s work in film and advocacy. She tries hard to promote Canadian designers, but looks so awkward and uncomfortable on red carpets that she does them a disservice. Sarah looks lovely with minimal effort, so she should adhere to the advice that less is more.

Worst Dressed Canadian Hall of Fame: Celine Dion - Her gowns had so many spangles, she had to move to Las Vegas, where bad taste festers. If she ever moves back to Canada, she should leave her wardrobe because whatever fashion crime happens in Vegas should stay in Vegas.

I actually believe that Celine Dion’s backwards Galliano suit at the Oscars was the most overrated fashion disaster of all time. It really wasn’t that horrible. Maybe I’ll blog about it.
