Rumours, rumours everywhere. A rumour can lift or destroy a reputation.  Dear Reader, today I am discussing rumours swirling around the fashion scene. Some are distressing, some are disturbing, and some are true, and some are false.

As a journalist and someone who has been the subject of many whispers, it is my job to uncover the truth. Until the truth gets out, though, what can a person do to abate those rumours?

There are poor and proper ways to address rumours, and yes, I am here to guide you through the proper ways.

Lucinda’s List: The Sophisticated Guide through Rumour Damage Control

  1. Ignore the Issue – You know you are better than those whispers, so you do not need to acknowledge them.
  2. Deny, Deny, Deny – It is always best to deny everything.
  3. Distraction Tactics – If anyone asks about the rumour, simply change the subject.
  4. Be Sweet – Never lose your cool. Always be polite to anyone who asks about said story. When appropriate, use points one, two, and three.
  5. Find the Source – If the peskiness persists, you may have to lay it to rest. The best way to do it is to find the source. Attend parties and events to discover who is talking.
  6. Quiet Confrontation – Politely meet with the source to discuss your side of the story. You have the right to tell them to break off the babble.
  7. Give Gifts – Is the source still spreading stories? Give a gift that will make her forget the fibs.
  8. Meet the Press – If the above strategies do not put the rumour to rest, find your favourite journalist and grant an exclusive interview.
  9. Have an Affair – Everyone loves a party and who can resist a happy host? Invite the gossipers as guests, and they’ll be divulging the details about your brilliant bash rather than scandalous story.
  10. Visit a Spa – If a negative rumour is true, you have no choice but to get a massage and wait out the gossip storm at the spa.
