It is time for Toronto to strut its stuff at L’Oreal Fashion Week. Six days worth of shows, parties, seminars, and events leave a fashionista with the ultimate challenges: What is the perfect outfit? Where is the best afterparty? How will I obtain only the best and most positive press attention?

Yes, Dear Readers, a lot of work goes into attending L’Oreal Fashion Week and I am here to help you make the most of it.

Lucinda’s List: Sophisticated Fashion Show Etiquette

  1. Arrive on Time - Yes, most fashion shows begin late, but that does not you have the right to be tardy. Respect the designer and show up on time.
  2. Respect the List - It is tres gauche to invite yourself to a fashion show. If you are worth inviting, you will be invited. If not this season, then eventually, if you work hard enough on cultivating your sophisticated reputation.
  3. RSVP, s’il vous plait - You demonstrate poor form by not responding to an invitation. Party planners have so much to worry about that they should be able to plan the event without considering your seat.
  4. Stick to Your Word - If you respond with a yes, you are obligated to show your face. People are too relaxed with RSVP’s these days.
  5. Provide Content - You should always show up dressed up, photo-ready, and photo-worthy.
  6. Take Your Seat - If you are invited and you RSVP’d you are guaranteed a seat. Find it immediately and prepare for the show. Socializing should come after the show; you do not want to be the reason why a show starts late.
  7. Silence the Phone - Always mute your cell phone for a show. You never know when a designer will pepper a show with pregnant pauses, and you do not want to be caught with a ring when everybody else is contemplating the collection.
  8. Silence the Friend - Nothing ruins a fashion show more than unwanted chatter.
  9. Look Interested - Maintain the same facial expression at all shows. You never want to reveal your thoughts until they are published. Plus, you never know when a photograph will be snapped, so you want to look your best at all times. It is devastating to get caught mid-word.
  10. The Runway is for Models - Never, ever step on the runway. Your footprints can affect the surface and there is nothing more tragic than a fallen model.
