After Friday’s runway disaster, the last thing I wanted to do was go out, but Sandee dragged me out of my studio and out of my funk by making me go to the LG Fashion Fusion show.
She showed me that the articles about my show were funny, not critical, and she said that she saw clips of my clothes on FT, Fashion File, ET Canada and eTalk! Velocity was everywhere, thanks to my crazy tornado gown.
Right away, people came up to tell me that my show livened up L’Oréal Fashion Week! At first I was embarrassed, but then I realized that nobody asked me about sweatshops! Lucinda McRuvy was right: the best thing to do to deflect negatative rumours is to throw a brilliant bash. Even though I didn’t have a party, the show got people talking about something other than sweatshops! But now I’m known as the “Runway Tornado” as one reviewer called me, but heck…it’s much better than being a slave driver.
Once I got comfortable with being the “Runway Tornado”, I started to have a good time. And I was cheered up by Phillip Bloch’s hairdo! The guy who calls himself a stylist has the nerve to criticize Canadian fashion and then wear spray-hair on our runway? No wonder he usually wears a hat. Yikes! I guess I’m not perfect either, it is just way too tempting to criticize the critic. Anyway, he did a good job of introducing a bunch of international fashion students and SHAN swimwear.
Then we went into a giant tent and got a pretty much private Maroon 5 show! Personally, I think they’re kind of meh (it would have been much better to have Fritz Helder and the Phantoms there!), but a private show was pretty cool. The lead singer and drummer were totally cute!
While the band played, Greta Constantine Atelier, Mikhael Kale, Agent Provocateur, and Wayne Clark showed, and Oh My God! Wayne Clark totally blew my mind! Now I know why he’s been the King of Canadian fashion for so long! I love his gowns! And Mikhael Kale’s shredded leather pants? I totally love them! Maybe I’ll have to find a pair of pants at Value Village and cut them up myself.
Oh, and I totally got introduced to Jeanne Beker! It’s what I always dreamed about, but it was totally awkward: we were in line for the porta-potties! Eeeks! So I just kind of mumbled something about how much I loved her, but then kind of shut up. I didn’t want her to equate Velocity with porta-potties.
At the end of the night, as I walked out through the Studio tent, I saw Jeanne again, with her assistant, Christopher, and they looked so cute! They were standing in front of a TV screen, admiring their FT Fashion Week coverage. I was going to run up and tell them that FT did a great job and that it was so nice of them to interview all the designers, but they were having a little moment, so I left them alone.
I’m glad Sandee dragged me out to the party. I feel better now.
