November 29th, 2008 · No Comments

Wow! There are so, so many DIY craft fairs this time of year. I really should have been better at applying for some of them so I could have made some money.  Maybe then I could have afforded to buy some cute Christmas presents for all my friends - I saw so many neat gift [...]

Philip Sparks Opens New Studio

November 29th, 2008 · No Comments

Sweet Philip Sparks celebrated the opening of his new studio in the newly renovated historic Burroughs Building.  His space and clothing epitomizes the elegance of gentlemen from a bygone era.
I do believe Toronto’s most fabulous, creative people attended this open house. I enjoyed rubbing shoulders with Samra Habib, Rouge Magazine Associate Fashion and Beauty Editor, [...]

Wal-Mart Stampedes are Why We Have Buy Nothing Day

November 28th, 2008 · No Comments

OMG! I can’t believe our completely overconsumptive society. We’re so bad, someone got trampled in a Wal-Mart! That’s why I like to celebrate Buy Nothing Day. The great Adbusters magazine started this event to encourage us to save the planet and consume less. I didn’t buy anything today.
Well, I did kind of buy some fabric, [...]

Black Friday

November 28th, 2008 · No Comments

Today was another Fashion Mafia workday. They invented the idea of overspending the day after American Thanksgiving, so it was my job to encourage Canadians to spend exuberantly, especially on international goods. I must hand it to Tracee Smithers, who must be the most perfect PR gal in the business, since she booked spots for [...]

November 27th, 2008 · No Comments

Wow! Karine Marin from Sensation Mode sent me an invitation to show at Montreal Fashion Week. How totally cool! It’s March 2 to 5. Toronto collections will be March 16 to 21. Should I do both? If I’m making the clothes, why not? It could be a great way to get more customers. I think [...]

November 26th, 2008 · No Comments

My rad friend, fellow designer and Deadly Nightshades Bike Gang member Irene Stickney is organizing these uber-cool fashion drawing nights at the store where she works, 69 Vintage. Well, actually, it’s at 69 Vintage Buy the Pound, but whatever. The models dress up in crazy-fun clothes and we draw them. It’s great practice and a [...]

Maurice Vellekoop Launches New Book of Pin-Ups

November 25th, 2008 · No Comments

Noted fashion illustrator Maurice Vellekoop launched his latest book, PIN-UPS this evening at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, so naturally Bernie and I had to attend. I simply adore Mr. Vellekoop’s fashion illustration, but tonight, the fashion was missing, so I asked him if he prefers not to draw clothes anymore. This is what he [...]

What?! My Contractor is Stealing My Ideas!

November 25th, 2008 · 1 Comment

It was a while since I heard from my contractor, so I popped in to check on production and I couldn’t believe what I saw: my signature bubble skirt done in 5 different fabrics and 10 different colours that I didn’t choose. Not only that, but there were like 500 of them!
I freaked out and [...]
