Holt Renfrew Unveils Holiday Window and Cadbury Unveils Cho-Couture

Oh, the life of a fashion journalist! So many things to do in one night. I had to choose between seeing Patti Labelle and Macy Gray sing at the Holt Renfrew holiday window unveiling and the Cadbury Chocolate Couture Collection.

Thank goodness the Fashion Mafia rescued me from any conundrum with the provision of a grey Chanel coat and dress suitable for both events, along with my now indispensable car and driver. I think I could get used to their lifestyle.

The Holt Renfrew windows delivered a message of hope and dreams while Cadbury provided a global celebration of chocolate dreams.

Soul Diva Simone Denny opened the sweeter show with her delicious voice and Solid Gold (or should I say Solid Cadbury?) background boys.

The Chocoloate Couture began with curator Farley Chatto’s Glam Rock God.  Highlights included London-trained Andrew Majtenyi’s Celtic Coquette and Eugenia Leavitt’s El Toreador suit. It was a royal treat to see Chris Tyrell and Jim Searle’s Maharaja of Cadbury, created under their HOAX Couture Studio moniker. Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong’s Thai Temptress tempted the audience indeed, with sweet moves and impressive chocolate craftwork that included six meters of dark chocolate beadwork. Izzy Camilleri’s African Queen impressed and Damzels in this Dress had the evening’s best model showing off their Harajuku girl dress. Judging from audience cheers, theirs may have been the evening’s favourite, though I was very much impressed with the work of Ines Di Santo’s New Zealand-inspired wedding gown.

As much as I loved the chocolate couture, I was swept away by the performance from surprise guest, Measha Brueggergosman. Not only is she a renowned Canadian soprano, she is a sophisticated woman with a royal presence, and great Canadian fashion supporter.

Speaking of being a Canadian fashion supporter, people cornered me tonight, questioning my lack of Canadian couture. I may be imagining it, but some people seemed miffed that I would wear something other than a Canadian design.
