We live in a time where speed and technology rules most people's lives. All the stress we are subjected to makes us forget that we are human sometimes, and hardens us so much that we barely think about savoring the moment. Because of that, the Slow Movement has begun to take over various categories important to our culture and civilization.
In 1986, Carlo Petrini started the 'Slow Food' movement in order to encourage people to savor locally grown, home cooked food in response to the rise of fast food. In 2007, Kate Fletcher created the 'Slow Fashion' movement, celebrating clothing that was ethically made and would last throughout the seasons in response to the rapid changes in fashion. With the same purpose of savoring, the Slow Movement concept has been brought to arts by the artist, musician, philanthropist, financier and co-chairman of IMG Artists, Barrett Wissman. Similar to the other two movements, the 'Slow Entertainment' movement is a response to the rapid creation of artistic pieces that are meant to be just temporary eye candy.
Barrett Wissman encourages artists to do more than what they are used to by blending their art specialization with another that is not of their domain. Building upon this idea, many artists have made outstanding performances. Composer Anthony Hopkins conducted his own works. Jeremy Irons played the role of Chopin accompanied by a sonata by Chopin. Robert Redford recited poetry in perfect synchronization with an orchestra. These examples show that the arts can actually combine and become something grander and more dynamic than they could be on their own.
Constantly breaking barriers in artistic ideas and being a starch supporter of the arts made Barrett Wissman the ‘Medici of 21st century’. He is also praised for founding two of the most amazing festivals of the world: the Tuscan Sun Festival and the Festival Napa Valley (formerly known as Festival del Sole).
This year, together with Palm Springs Life magazine and IMG Artists, Barrett Wissman has organized the Palm Springs Life Festival, where music, fashion, food, and wine come together to be celebrated from March 20, 2016 through April 24, 2016. Everyone who enjoys arts and culture is welcome to join in and savor every moment of the show!
